Westside Zac

I am a husband of 1, father of 5, son of THE 1. I started this tumblr to share the resources I'm constantly searching for online.

  • Do not let the sun go down on your anger

A couple of weeks back, I printed up about 15 Bible verses that all contain the phrase “one another,” and taped the print-up on my bathroom wall.  All of the verses are convincing and convicting, but there is one that has really stuck with me, and that’s 2 Corinthians 13:11:

Finally, brothers, rejoice. Aim for restoration, comfort one another, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.

“Agree with one another?” Really? That’s a Biblical command? That’s a hard one for me, but as I’ve been reflecting on what that means for the Church, it’s exciting to dream about. And then, today, as I was reading a little Systematic Theology about Satan and Demons, the Holy Spirit showed me a connection between 2 Corinthians 13:11 and Ephesians 4:25-27.  What if we were so dedicated to agreeing with one another that we followed through every day on the do-not-let-the-sun-go-down-on-your-anger command of Ephesians 4:25-27?

Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another. Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil.

The sun does go down every day, after all.

By the power of Christ in me, through the Holy Spirit, I resolve to put away falsehood, speak the truth with my neighbor, get so angry at sin I won’t let it divide us as family, and strive for agreement-before-sundown every day.

Imagine what impact this would have on the Church!  All the bickering.  All the back-biting.  All the rumors.  All the bitterness.  All the suspicion…that you harbor toward others could be taken away by the power of Christ’s atoning work on the Cross.

Will you agree with me in this resolution?
